The book contains a record of the Committee Dinner with remarks by Chairman Oberstar, Ranking Member Mica, and our Keynote Speaker Ray LaHood, U.S. Secretary of Transportation.  It also includes a history of the Committee written by Dr. Fred Beuttler, Deputy Historian of the House, and the Toast to the Committee.  The Society also collected reflections from a number of Committee members on memorable moments while serving on the Committee and landmark legislation.

Ron Sarasin, President of the Society, began by thanking the staff of the Committee for helping USCHS to plan such a memorable evening.  Tom Coleman, Chairman of the Society’s Board of Trustees, presented a book to Chairman Oberstar, Ranking Member Mica, and jointly to David Heymsfeld, Staff Director, and James Coon, Republican Chief of Staff, on behalf of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

Thumbing through Books

Chairman Oberstar and Ranking Member Mica thumbed through the books and reflected on the history-filled evening last October.  The Chairman looked forward to the volume being on display in the main Committee Room.  Ranking Member Mica remarked that the dinner was "...one of the most enjoyable evenings I've spent in Congress."
