Watering Holes of Washington: Capitol Hill History Pub Tour (Senate Side)
October 22, 2009 6-8:30 p.m.
It couldn’t have been a more glorious evening for the Watering Holes of Washington: Capitol History Pub Tour, the weather was perfect. It seemed like summer was going to last another evening…. just for us. The crowd was great, the history was great, what more could you ask for?
Steve Livengood, our illustrious tour guide, has been crawling through Hill pubs and giving tours of the Capitol since 1964. He relayed stories throughout the evening about the politicians, pubs, neighborhoods, and folks who have lived and worked on the Hill. Even some of our tour guests stood up and told stories of their own.
The evening started out at The Monocle. The waiters served us their special martini called the “Bipartisan” where the liquor proportions represented the percentage of Senate democrats and republicans. In addition, they graciously provided us with tasty appetizers.
Our next stop was The Dubliner. Here, we had our own special room and the staff enhanced our merriment by telling us stories about the founding and history of their tavern. The beer specials were on tap, the Dubliner raffled off an official t-shirt, and the group enjoyed the historical ambience.
The final destination was the Capitol City Brewing Company where we settled in for a final round of historical anecdotes, one last cold glass of beer and a raffle where six lucky winners took home Brewing Company t-shirts and pint glasses.
