2011 African American History Month Lecture Commemorates the
Life and Career of Senator Hiram Revels


In observance of African American History Month, the United States Capitol Historical Society presents a lecture discussion on Senator Hiram Revels, the first African American to serve in the United States Congress.  The lecture is at noon on Wednesday, February 9, in room 121 of the Cannon House Office Building, and is free and open to the public.

The speaker is Laura Turner O’Hara, Historical Publications Specialist with the Office of the Historian of the U.S. House of Representatives.  Ms. O’Hara is the author of the biographical entry on Revels in Black Americans in Congress, 1870-2007.
